The Tulsa City-County Library System is an amazing resource for homeschoolers. Here’s a brief overview on how to make the most of the library system.
Get a library card by filling out the online form. If you have trouble remembering when things are due, sign up for Library Elf.
You can basically be your own librarian with the library’s kiosks. They make checking out and checking in easy. They tell you how many items you have checked out, list any fines you might have, and can send an email or print a receipt of the books you check out.
You now no longer have to bring books back every two weeks. You still have to renew them, and renewing is easy when you sign up to receive Library Text Alerts. You can renew up to 100 times, as long as no one else needs the book. If you don’t renew them, though, you are still subject to regular fines.
You can check out up to 50 items per account. You can check out up to 50 books, 15 videos/dvds, and 10 cds. Any person of any age can have a library account, so if you have lots of kids, they can all have library cards. Just be careful not to lose library books; a lost or damaged book can cost up to double what the book would cost if you were to buy it (trust us, we know from experience).
A great tool for students who have loads of books to read each semester is the library’s ebook/audiobook partners. Sign up with these partners with your library card number.
Order books online from all over the county to be shipped to your favorite library.
These are all resources that are great for families who just want to be in and out or don’t want to make a visit with kids at all. If you like visiting the library with kids, there are many other resources to take advantage of. There are many programs available for kids and adults. And events are listed and updated regularly.
Take advantage of these free resources! They can save you loads as well as create great memories of regular trips to the library.
